KCPS is establishing Design Advisory Teams (DATs) at each Targeted Investment site (new construction, additions, major construction/modernization) receiving bond funding in the 10-Year Capital Plan. The goal of the DATs is to ensure that site-specific program needs identified by school stakeholders are incorporated into design and construction decisions for bond-funded school improvement projects.

DATs generally include 10-15 members from the school community, including:

  • School Principal

  • School Instructional Staff

  • School Support Staff

  • Students (for high school projects only)

  • Parent/Guardians

  • Community Partners/Community Members

Roles/Responsibilities:

DATs will meet at major milestones during the design phase. Timelines are dependent on project strategy and scope. More detailed information for each school site will be provided at the beginning of each school’s DAT process. DAT members will:

  • Collaborate with the architect, design and construction management team at DAT meetings to review project scope and provide feedback on site-specific design and construction decisions

  • Participate in public community meetings during the design phase

  • Share progress updates with the community and relay any feedback back to the DAT.

To learn more, check out the Design Advisory Team (DAT) Overview.
